Men's Soccer Hires Carter Lincoln as Assistant Coach

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Defending national champion Syracuse men's soccer adds Carter Lincoln as its new assistant coach. Lincoln brings a wealth of coaching experience and expertise, previously serving as the head coach of Clarkson University and as an assistant coach at Vermont.
"Carter is incredibly passionate about being a member of our Syracuse soccer program. That dedication combined with his diverse coaching experiences will help us continue our growth as a team," head coach Ian McIntyre said. "He will be an integral part of our recruiting efforts and the day-to-day operations of the program. I look forward to seeing him continue his development as a coach and how he mentors and inspires our current-student athletes."
During his four seasons at the helm of the Clarkson men's soccer program, Lincoln led the Golden Knights to two double-digit win campaigns, amassing a 34-24-11 record from 2018 to 2022. In his first year leading Clarkson in 2018, Lincoln guided the team to its first double-digit win season since 2001. The following year saw Lincoln push the Golden Knights to the Liberty League conference finals.
The 2022 season was a landmark year for Clarkson men's soccer, as Lincoln's strong defensive tactics saw the Golden Knights in the national rankings for the first time in two decades, peaking as high as 18 in the polls. Clarkson kept seven straight clean sheets to start the season, a program record.
"I'm excited and grateful for this opportunity. I'm eager to get started and look forward to continuing the success on the pitch that the team saw last year," Lincoln said. "My soccer philosophy aligns with the values that coach McIntyre and coach Jukka Masalin have instilled in the program. I look forward to building upon the team's culture with my unique experiences."
Lincoln emphasizes the academic standing of his student-athletes, mentoring them to numerous academic awards. Over his five years at Clarkson, Lincoln pushed two student-athletes to United Soccer Coaches' Scholar All-America honors and College Sports Communicators Academic All-America status.
Prior to taking over Clarkson, Lincoln served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Vermont, in 2017. In Burlington, Lincoln was responsible for the player development of two first-team America East All-Conference selections and the 2017 America East Goalkeeper of the Year Aron Runarsson. Lincoln also assisted in directing recruiting efforts, identifying key talent in the United States and overseas.
Lincoln began his coaching career at Clarkson as an assistant coach from 2015 to 2016. In his first stint with the Golden Knights, Lincoln oversaw all recruiting efforts while designing and implementing training sessions.
A former student-athlete, Lincoln began his collegiate career at Southern New Hampshire University in 2010. After two seasons with the Penmen, Lincoln transferred to Vermont in 2012. In his three years with the Catamounts, Lincoln appeared in 38 matches in the midfield, playing a part in Vermont's 2012 America East regular season title.
Lincoln joins a Syracuse program that looks to defend its first national championship in 2023. The Orange dominated in 2022, winning the NCAA National Championship, Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament championship and ACC Atlantic division regular season title.
