Syracuse Wraps Up Road Schedule At Cornell

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball concludes its regular season road schedule in Ithaca, as the Orange take on Cornell in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 26. The twin bill begins with game one at 3 p.m., as game two is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Both contests will be streaming live on ESPN+.

The Orange conclude the regular season with an eight-game homestand against Virginia, Colgate and Boston College.
In the second game against the Cavaliers on Saturday, Apr. 29, Syracuse will retire pitcher Jenna Caira's #29 jersey. Caira was a four-time All-BIG EAST Conference honoree and a 2021 Olympic bronze medalist. She will be the first former player to have her number retired in program history.

ORANGE UPDATE:
- Syracuse swept Lafayette over the weekend, taking all three-games over the Leopards
- The Orange opened the series with a 10-2 run-rule victory in six innings. Tessa Galipeau, Madison Knight, and Laila Alves all finished with three hits, marking the first time since 2020 that three different batters finished with three or more hits in a single game.
- In game two, Syracuse scored a season-high 12 runs in the win. Kelly Breen and Galipeau combined for six hits, five RBIs and two home runs.
- 'Cuse completed the sweep with 11 runs on a season-high 17 hits. Nine different Orange batters recorded at least one hit, six of them being multi-hit performances.
- Syracuse's offense produced a .438 batting average and a .657 slugging percentage in the three games against Lafayette.
- Galipeau led the way at the plate, logging eight hits and seven RBIs in her 14 plate appearances against Lafayette.
- In her 13 innings of work against Lafayette, Knight struck out 16 batters, recording a new career-high for strikeouts in a game with 10 against the Leopards in Sunday's 11-1 win.
- The Orange scored 33 runs on 46 hits in the three-game series, both high in series play this season.
- Galipeau is excelling in the month of April. The infielder has started all 15 games at first base, leading the team in batting average (.435), RBIs (12) and slugging percentage (.630) in the month of April.
- Freshman outfielder Madelyn Lopez leads Syracuse at the plate in her first season, recording team highs in batting average (.345), on-base percentage (.436) and walks (14).
SCOUTING THE BIG RED:
- Cornell enters Wednesday's game with a record of 11-23, including a 4-11 record in the Ivy League.
- Senior Celia Macari leads the Big Red in slugging percentage (.566) and home runs (31).
- In the circle, Madalyn Covelli posts a team-leading 3.29 ERA.
- The Big Red look to rebound after three-straight losses in their series at Columbia.
THE SERIES
- The Orange lead the all-time series against the Big Red, 18-9, and have won the last three clashes.
- The two programs last met in 2019, as Miranda Hearn threw a complete game shutout to secure a 3-0 win.
- Cornell last beat Syracuse in 2013.
