CHARLOTTE – Syracuse opens play in the 2023 ACC Women's Lacrosse Tournament against Virginia Tech on Wednesday, April 26. The No. 2 seed Orange and seventh seed Hokies meet in the third quarterfinal of the day at approximately 4 p.m. in Charlotte.

ORANGE UPDATE
The Orange finished the regular season with a 15-1 record and earned a share of the ACC regular season title with an 8-1 league mark. Syracuse opened the season with 15 consecutive victories, which matches the longest winning streak in program history.

The Orange are making their ninth appearance in the ACC Tournament. Syracuse has an all-time record of 12-7 in ACC Tournament play. The 'Cuse has advanced to the championship game five times, including 2021. The Orange won the 2015 ACC Championship, defeating North Carolina in OT in the title game.

SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech (10-8, 3-6) defeated Pittsburgh, 18-6, in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals.

Olivia Vergano and Ella Rishko lead the Virginia Tech offense. Vergano has a team-high 49 goals, while Rishko is right behind with 42. Jocely Torres has started all 18 games in goal for the Hokies. She has a 9.93 goals-against average and a .460 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's game will be the 16th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Virginia Tech. The Orange have won 14 of the previous 15 meetings between the two teams.

The squads played earlier this season in the JMA Wireless Dome. With the score tied at 1-1, Megan Carney found the back of the net with 1:14 remaining in the first quarter, sparking the Orange on a 7-0 scoring run that gave Syracuse an 8-1 halftime lead.

The 'Cuse offense continued to click in the second half as the Orange recorded a 16-5 victory. Meaghan Tyrrell scored five goals and finished with seven points. Delaney Sweitzer recorded a career-high 15 saves to go along with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
