Orange Head to Lake Morey Invite
4/28/2023 4:23:00 PM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse men's rowing team returns to action in Fairlee, Vt., this weekend to conclude its regular season after a week off from racing. Syracuse is scheduled to race #13 Boston University Saturday morning for the Conlan Cup and hits the water in the afternoon to face #6 Dartmouth for the Packard Cup. Racing will conclude for the Orange on Sunday morning when Syracuse races #16 Georgetown.
Syracuse will be racing a BU crew that has not raced since the Pac-12 Challenge three weeks ago in Redwood City, Calif. The Terriers lost to #13 Stanford, #1 California, and #12 Wisconsin on the trip.
Syracuse and Dartmouth are once again two of the top crews on the east coast this year. Last year's IRA Championship Regatta featured the Orange eliminating the Big Green from A-Final contention in the semifinals on their way to a fifth-place finish in the Grand Final. Dartmouth won the Petite Final, respectively, to place seventh. While Syracuse is currently ranked No. 5 and Dartmouth is No. 6, the two teams are both seeded in the top-5 in the East Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC).
Dartmouth is coming off a strong weekend of racing against #10 Brown at the Lake Morey. The Big Green has one loss on the season to #2 Yale and has beaten crews from MIT and #18 Holy Cross.
Georgetown most recently raced on April 16 in Mercer Lake, N.J. The Hoyas varsity eight defeated #17 Holy Cross, #16 Temple, and Marist.
Syracuse currently holds the Conlan Cup having won the varsity race against BU last year for the first time since 2017. The Orange look to reclaim the Packard Cup from Dartmouth after surrendering it to the Big Green at Lake Morey last season.
Racing begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning with the varsity eight for the Conlan Cup, followed by the 2V at 8:20, the 3V at 8:40 and the 4V at 9 a.m. The V4+ race will conclude morning racing at 9:10 a.m.
Against Dartmouth, racing begins at 5 p.m. with the V4+ and concludes at 6 p.m. with the varsity eight for the Packard Cup.
Sunday's race schedule begins at 8:10 a.m. with the varsity eight against Georgetown. The 2V and 3V will race at 8:20 a.m. and will be followed by the 4V at 8:50 and the V4+ at 9 a.m.
Following the weekend races, Syracuse will have another two weeks to prepare for the Eastern Sprints Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Ma., on May 13-14.
