Syracuse, NC State Set For Weekend Clash

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange softball welcomes Atlantic Coast Conference foe NC State to Skytop Softball Stadium this weekend. The series kicks off on Thursday, Apr. 6, as the Orange and Wolfpack play under the lights at 6 p.m. Game two begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 7, with the series finale taking place on Saturday, Apr. 8 at 1 p.m.

Admission to Skytop Softball Stadium is free of charge and all contests will be streaming live on ACC Network Extra.

ORANGE UPDATE:

Syracuse is 10-17-1 on the season, dropping back-to-back games against Louisville. The series finale was canceled due to cold temperatures.
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, an Orange rally fell short in a 5-3 loss. Louisville earned the series win in game two with a 8-0 run-rule victory.
Infielder Tessa Galipeau led Syracuse at the plate against the Cardinals. The sophomore logged three hits and one double over five plate appearances.
The Syracuse pitching staff struck out nine batters over 13 innings.
First-year outfielder Madelyn Lopez is excelling at the plate for 'Cuse. The Montgomery, Texas native leads the team in batting average (.298), slugging percentage (.404) and on-base percentage (.382).
Junior outfielder Angel Jasso continues to be a reliable bat, as she leads Syracuse in hits (23) and total bases (31). Jasso is the only student-athlete to start every game in the 2023 season.
Head coach Shannon Doepking's team is the youngest in the ACC, as the 10 freshmen on the 2023 are the most in the conference.
Underclassmen account for 67 percent of hits, 64 percent of runs scored, 64 percent of runs batted in and 68 percent of at-bats.
The Orange continue to be one of the stronger defensive sides in the conference, as Syracuse ranks sixth in the ACC in fielding percentage (.965) and fifth in errors committed (26).

SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK:

NC State brings a 13-24 record to the Empire State, going 4-8 in ACC play. The Wolfpack traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the LSU Tournament over the weekend. NC State went 1-4 in tournament, beating Louisiana Tech 5-0.
Sophomore infielder Hannah Goodwin, a Clemson transfer, leads the Wolfpack at the plate. The West Columbia, S.C. native sports a team-high .308 batting average.
First-year catcher Amanda Hasler is NC State's primary run producer, leading the team in slugging percentage (.558) and runs batted in (22).
From the circle, NC State ranks 13^th in the ACC in earned run average (5.73) and 11^th in strikeouts (154).
The Wolfpack are led by interm head coach Deven Boland.

THE SERIES:

NC State and Syracuse have met 20 times on the softball field, as the Wolfpack lead the all-time series, 11-9.
Last season, NC State took two-out-of-three against the Orange, scoring a combined 16 runs compared to Syracuse's 15.
Syracuse holds a 6-4 record against NC State over the past ten games in the series.

UP NEXT:

Syracuse returns to non-conference play next week, traveling to UAlbany for a doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 12. The Orange resume ACC play with a three-game series against North Carolina. The series against the Tar Heels begins on Friday, Apr. 14.
