SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse Softball fell just short in an extra-innings thriller against Boston College in the second game of the series. Both teams scored in the first inning, as the Eagles tied the game in the seventh inning.Â
Outfielder Angel Jasso led Syracuse at the plate, tying her season-highs in hits with three and RBIs with two.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The offenses excited the crowd at Skytop Softball Stadium immediately, as each team scored in the first inning. The Eagles got on the board first, scoring the opening run. With a runner on first, outfielder Hannah Slike sliced a ball down the right field line for a RBI double, 1-0. Syracuse pulled ahead in its half of the third. Outfielder Madelyn Lopez worked a one-out walk, advancing to second on a wild pitch with Jasso up to bat. In the tenth pitch of her at-bat, Jasso crushed a ball to deep center field for a two-run home run, her first at Skytop this season.Â
After six scoreless innings, Boston College tied the game up on its last out. Infielder Abigail Knight knocked a single down the left field line, putting a runner on for infielder Meghan Schouten. The freshman laced a ball to deep right field, scoring the tying run, 2-2.Â
The Eagles took the lead in the ninth inning. With one out, infielder Nicole Giery hit a solo home run past the left field wall, 3-2. Boston College extended its lead later in the inning. With the bases loaded, outfielder Zoe Hines hit a bases clearing three-run RBI-double, 6-2.Â
Syracuse finished with two runs on five hits, as the defense didn't commit an error for the 23rd time this year. Knight threw 178 pitches in her career-high 8.1 innings of work, striking out nine batters. Senior Kaia Oliver got the last two outs in the ninth inning, striking out one batter.    Â
