Syracuse kicks off its 28th season of women's soccer with a match at Delaware on Thursday, August 17, at 6:00 p.m.

The Syracuse-Delaware Series
The Orange and the Blue Hens have met once previously, on August 21, 2016. Syracuse emerged from that encounter with a 2-0 triumph.

Thursday marks the first time Syracuse has played at Delaware.

Syracuse Status:
The Orange prepped for the regular season by posting exhibition match victories against St. Bonaventure and Albany. Redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey was an offensive force in the two contests, tallying three goals and two assists. Ashley Rauch, a classmate of Flurey's, scored a goal and an assist in each match. Senior Hannah Pilley also had a productive preseason, with a goal in both contests.

Flurey is the club's top returning scorer. She contributed four goals a season ago.

Delaware Status:
The Blue Hens had preseason matches with Navy and Delaware State prior to its regular-season opener. Delaware was 2-11-5 a season ago.

First-year coach Kelly Lawrence is a familiar face for Syracuse fans. Lawrence was an assistant coach at Syracuse from 2015-19.

Delaware features sophomore Izzy Lane, who scored six goals as a freshman. Senior Raychel Speicher posted three goals and four assists in 2022. Senior Mia Reed started 12 games in goal and produced a 1.38 goals-against-average last fall.

Syracuse is 15-8-4 in campaign openers.
Nicky Adams enters her fifth season as head coach at Syracuse.
The Orange were 8-7-3 a year ago, the program's top record since 2012.
The 2023 Syracuse roster features five seniors: Aysia Cobb, Raia James, Kate Murphy, Hannah Pilley and Zoe Van de Cloot.
Junior Emma Klein enters the regular season with a squad-best 29 career starts.
