Men’s Soccer Adds Sean Hallas to Coaching Staff

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer head coach Ian McIntyre has hired Sean Hallas as the team's director of soccer operations/player development. Hallas brings a wealth of experience and expertise, previously serving as the head coach for Medaille University.
"Sean is a wonderful addition to our coaching staff," McIntyre said. "He will ensure that we continue to provide the best possible environment for our Syracuse student-athletes on and off the soccer field. Sean's experience, knowledge and passion will be a terrific complement to our coaching staff."
During his two seasons at the helm of the Medaille men's soccer program, Hallas led the Mavericks to double-digit win campaigns, posting a 25-6-7 record. Hallas' teams also played in the conference championship games both years, with the 2022 squad earning the Empire 8 title, the program's first NCAA berth since 2017.
In his first year leading Medaille, Hallas earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year honors after guiding the program to a perfect 8-0 record in league play, with the squad reaching the conference finals.
Hallas led the 2022 team to a 12-2-6 record in the team's championship season, marking the least number of losses since Medaille's 17-3 campaign in 2012.
"I am extremely excited and grateful to be given this role," said Hallas. "I would like to thank head coach Ian McIntyre for the opportunity to be on his staff at this incredible program. I am looking forward to helping each individual player in any way possible and being an asset to this program moving into the season."
In Hallas' two seasons overseeing Medaille men's soccer, the program did not lack offensive production. In both years, the team averaged more than three goals-per-game, compiling a total of 118 goals while allowing just 46. Hallas was responsible for the development of Ander Castillo, who was the NCAA Division III leading goal scorer in 2021 and 2022.
Prior to taking over Medaille, Hallas served as an assistant coach in 2019 before being named interim head coach during the 2020 campaign. In 2019, Hallas was responsible for monitoring student-athlete academic performance and the player development of two United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections.
Hallas began his coaching career with Global Premier Soccer in Buffalo, N.Y. from 2017 to 2020, coaching more than 12 teams and assisting in day-to-day operations of the Buffalo franchise. Hallas also served as a head coach in the WNY Flash Academy, where he helped more than 20 players transition to collegiate soccer.
A former student-athlete, Hallas began his collegiate career at Genesee Community College in 2012. After two seasons with the Cougars, Hallas transferred to William Carey University in 2014. During his time with the Crusaders, Hallas made two NAIA National Tournament appearances.
Hallas holds a USSF B coaching license.
Hallas joins a Syracuse program that looks to defend its first national championship in 2023. The Orange open the 2023 campaign against Providence at the SU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
