Syracuse faces its second consecutive road match when it takes on Siena in Loudonville, N.Y., on Sunday, Aug. 20. The Orange and the Saints will compete at Siena Field.
The Syracuse-Siena SeriesÂ
The Orange have captured both previous meetings with the Saints. Syracuse defeated Siena in 2019, 3-0, and claimed a 2-0 victory in 2022. The two contests were held at Syracuse.
Battle of the Vanderbosch's:
Sunday's match will feature a "Battle of the Vanderbosch's." Sophomore twin sisters Shea (Syracuse) and Kam (Siena) will suit up on opposite sides of the field for the second straight season. Shea is Syracuse's starting goalkeeper while Kam is a first-string back for the Saints. The twins were scholastic standouts at Lancaster High School (N.Y.).
Syracuse Status:
The Orange were edged at Delaware on Thursday night, 1-0. The host Blue Hens scored in the first seven minutes of play and held off Syracuse the rest of the way.Â
The Orange prepped for the regular season by posting exhibition match victories against St. Bonaventure and Albany. Redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey was an offensive force in the two contests, tallying three goals and two assists. Ashley Rauch, a classmate of Flurey's, scored a goal and an assist in each match. Senior Hannah Pilley also had a productive preseason, with a goal in both contests.
Siena Status:Â
Siena was blanked by Centrarl Connecticut State on Tuesday, 3-0. The Saints managed 14 shots, but only directed two of those on goal. Graduate student Brooke Boermeester, Siena's goalkeeper, had five saves in the lost.
