
Sweitzer Named USA Lacrosse Preseason Goalie of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse's Delaney Sweitzer has been tabbed as USA Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Goalie of the Year. The honor comes a day after being named a preseason first-team All-American by the publication.

Sweitzer is the reigning Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Goalkeeper of the Year. She earned the honor after a breakout season in 2023. Sweitzer recorded a career-high 185 saves, which ranked seventh in the nation. She reached double figures in saves eight times and made a career-best 15 saves in wins against Virginia Tech and North Carolina.

In addition, Sweitzer ranked eighth nationally in save percentage (.505) and 12th in goals-against average (9.20). She also finished third in the nation in ground balls per game (3.71).

The Hatfield, Pa. native was a 2023 IWLCA All-America First Team selection as well as a Tewaaraton Award nominee. She was also selected to the All-Northeast Region and the All-ACC First Team. Sweitzer was a four-time ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
