
Orange Split Series at Penn State

The Orange split their College Hockey America series at Penn State after a 5-0 loss on Saturday at Pegula Ice Arena. Syracuse won the first game on Friday, 3-1. In Saturday's game, goaltender Allie Kelley had 48 saves for the Orange, marking her fifth consecutive game with 40-or-more saves. The Orange (5-19-2 overall, 2-9-1 CHA) and Nittany Lions (14-11-1, 9-3) played even in the first period with neither team scoring a goal. Penn State opened a 3-0 lead after two periods and scored two in the final frame for the final score.

"It's been a heavy stretch of road games and a lot of hockey these past two weeks," said head coach Britni Smith. "We are coming out of this weekend with two big points and ready to continue our push for the playoffs this weekend at home."

Kelley has 883 saves in 25 games this season, which ranks third on the Syracuse single-season record list. Lucy Schoedel holds the record with 946 saves in 36 games in 2009-10 and Arielle DeSmet is second with 905 saves in 34 games in 2022-23. Kelley increased her career saves total to 3,106. Defensemen Alexandria Weiss and Rachel Teslak each had three blocks in the game. Weiss and defenseman Kailey Langefels lead the Orange with 37 blocked shots this season.

Forward Tatum White climbed into the top 25 on Syracuse's single-season faceoff wins record list. She won 12 to increase her season total to 279, which ranks 24th. White has 750 career face off wins, which is fifth in Syracuse history.

The Orange will host Robert Morris on Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 pm and Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3 pm at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Admission and parking are free.
