CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For a second time this season, a Syracuse University field hockey netminder earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors as Louise Pert was selected on October 1. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its weekly honors Tuesday afternoon.
Joining Pert in the weekly awards announcement was ACC Offensive Player of the Week Mia Abello (Virginia) and Co-Defensive Player of the Week Charlotte Kramer (Boston College). Vera Hekkenberg was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the orange in mid-September.
Pert backed Syracuse (6-3, 1-2 ACC) to a pair of shutouts on the road for the fourth-straight game the Orange have played away from Central New York. The Bray, Ireland native backed Syracuse for 140 minutes over the weekend on the team's second trip to the state of North Carolina in as many weeks, shutting out Wake Forest in a 1-0 win and a 1-0 loss at No. 9 Duke. Pert was lights out against the Blue Devils as the game went to a shootout after a 0-0 score through regulation and two overtime periods.
Across the weekend of ACC play, the first time Syracuse has played back-to-back league games in the same weekend since 1994, Pert made eight saves, including seven at Duke on Sunday, a new career high. Pert was a clean eight-for-eight in opponent shots on goal through the weekend with a 0.00 goals against average.
Pert and the No. 15 Orange return to J.S. Coyne Stadium this weekend for a pair of top 20 clashes. On Friday, Syracuse takes on No. 16 Louisville for a 4 p.m. ACC showdown. 'Cuse rounds out the weekend with No. 14 Princeton Sunday morning with an 11:30 a.m. start. Both games will be carried on ACC Network Extra.
