COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Syracuse field hockey moved up one spot in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll of the 2024 regular season. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 11th and final poll of the year Tuesday morning.
Syracuse (13-6), which earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for a fourth-straight season, moved up one spot to 11th after spending several weeks at number 12. Friday's opponent, Harvard, also moved up one slot to 10th. Friday's First Round game will be the seventh time this year the Orange take on a top 10 team and fifth in the last four weeks.
North Carolina elevated to the number one spot in the poll with 612 points and 23 first-place votes, swapping with Northwestern, which slid to second with 577 points and the final eight top selections. Saint Joseph's was third with 509 points while UConn made the biggest leap in the poll this week, jumping six spots to fourth with 455 points. Maryland rounds out the top five with 449 points.
The five ACC teams still alive in the NCAA Tournament were ranked in the top 11 of the Coaches Poll this week: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 7 Boston College, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Duke, and No. 11 Syracuse.
With the addition of No. 10 Harvard, nine opponents across the 2024 schedule are in the NFHCA Top 20 this week: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 4 UConn, No. 7 Boston College, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Duke, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 13 Princeton, and No. 20 Lafayette. Including Friday, 13 of the 20 Syracuse games so far this year will be against top 20 teams.
In the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) Syracuse had the ninth-best RPI at .62709, backed by the best conference RPI and the seventh-best nonconference RPI in the country.
