Orange Travel to Southeastern Louisiana Classic

HAMMOND, LA. – Syracuse begins back-to-back weekend tournaments in Louisiana, starting with the Southeastern Louisiana Classic Feb. 16 and 17 in Hammond, La. The Orange play Maryland, host Southeastern Louisiana and Southeast Missouri State at North Oak Park.
Syracuse opens the tournament against Maryland at 3 p.m., before playing Southeastern Louisiana at 5 p.m. The Orange face the Terrapins at 12 p.m. on Saturday, before wrapping up the weekend against Southeast Missouri State with a 4 p.m. first pitch.

SERIES HISTORY:
Syracuse faces Southeastern Louisiana and Southeast Missouri State for the second time in program history. The Orange beat SEMO, 3-1, on March 10, 2003, and lost to SLU, 4-2, on Feb. 18, 2005.
Syracuse has played Maryland five times, with the Terps holding a 3-2 edge in the all-time series. In the last meeting, Maryland won a 7-6 ballgame on April 2, 2014.

ORANGE UPDATE:
- Syracuse began the season 3-2 at the Kickin' Chicken Classic in Conway, S.C., recording a pair of shutout victories on the weekend. The Orange blanked Bucknell, 3-0, in the first game, and Campbell, 5-0, in the weekend finale.
- Senior Angel Jasso was scorching at the plate, batting .706 (12-for-17), with six runs scored, 10 RBI, four extra-base hits and three stolen bases in three attempts. In the five games, Jasso posted a .706/.737/1.118 slash line.
- Jasso recorded mutli-hit performances in all five contests and three multi-RBI games. The outfielder ranks fourth in the country in hits (12) and tenth in RBI (10).
- Freshman Makenzie Foster and sophomore Peyton Schemmer hit their first career home runs on Sunday, joining Jasso and junior Taylor Posner, who also went deep during the opening tournament.
- Senior Lindsey Hendrix won two games in both appearances in the circle, tossing 12.0 shutout frames and holding opponents to a .158 batting average.
- Syracuse scored 30 runs over the first five games of 2024. Jasso and Foster paced the offense with six runs apiece, while Posner and sophomore Gabby Lantier both crossed the plate four times.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
- Maryland went 2-3 during the opening weekend, beating San Diego, 4-0, and LMU, 8-1. Freshman catcher Delaney Reefe paced the Terrapins' offense, batting .385 (5-for-13) with a home run and six RBI. Maryland's pitching staff combined for a 2.83 ERA in 34.2 innings, striking out 31 batters and holding opponents to a .194 batting average.
- Southeastern Louisiana began 2024 with a perfect 5-0 record, outscoring opponents, 31-0, before dropping a midweek contest at Louisiana Tech, 4-1. The Lions are batting .396 as a squad. Of the team's 59 hits, 13 went for extra bases, including five triples. In the circle, five different pitchers held opponents to a .147 batting average and their five shutouts are tied with LSU for the most in the country.
- Southeast Missouri State posted a 3-2 record at the Felsberg Invitational in Miami, Fla., beating Stony Brook, 7-5 and 5-4, and Florida International, 7-4, in eight innings. The Redhawks are led by Aubrie Shore, who batted .438 (7-for-16), with six RBI and four extra-base hits across the five contests. In the circle, Tegan Livesay and Willow Van Haren combined to allow two earned runs across 14.2 innings.
