
Syracuse Set For First Road Tilt At Columbia

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season to face Columbia (3-1) in New York, N.Y. on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. The Orange (4-0) won their first four contests of the season for the second consecutive year and look to extend their winning streak.

Sunday's match marks the 8th all-time meeting between the two programs. In their most recent affair in February 2020, the Lions came out on top, 4-2. Â

The Orange had dominant wins versus St. Bonaventure, 7-0, and against long-time rival Cornell, 6-1, last weekend. Ines Fonte and Polina Kozyreva began the winning for 'Cuse in the doubles event with a 6-2 victory in the number three spot. The pair of Miyuka Kimoto and Emilie Elde secured a 7-5 win in the number one spot, while Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Shiori Ito completed the doubles sweep in the number two spot with a 7-6 win. Constance Levivier kick-started the singles victories with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the number six spot. Anastasia Sysoeva, Kimoto, Kozyreva and Ito all found success in their singles contests as well.

Columbia is coming off a 6-1 victory against Penn State last weekend. In doubles, Winta Tewolde and Rachelle Rimondini were able to secure a 6-1 victory. Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang's pair were able to top their opponent 6-2 to claim another doubles point. Zhang was also successful within her singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Natasha Schou, Clarine Lerby, Gayathri Krishnan and Julia Haynes were among the other Lions to come out on top in their singles matchups.

'Cuse will have a short break in competition following Sunday's match. The Orange will face their first conference opponent of the year in Boston College on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Drumlins Country Club.
