Orange Take on Cavaliers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Syracuse continues its seven-game stretch in the state of Virginia, taking on the Cavaliers March 15-17 at Palmer Park. First pitches are scheduled for 3 p.m., 1 p.m. and noon. The games will air live on ACC Network Extra.

The Orange enter the weekend on a four-game winning streak and 12-9 overall record, while holding an 0-3 record in Atlantic Coast Conference action. Virginia has lost three straight games and is 15-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Syracuse holds a 15-4 record all time versus Virginia. 16 of the 19 contests have taken place in Charlottesville while only six have been played during the month of March. The Orange last played the Cavaliers in April 2021, when they won three games by scores of 4-1, 7-4 and 1-0. Virginia took the third game in the four-game set, 6-0.

ORANGE UPDATE:Â
- Syracuse won all four games in Norfolk, Va., earlier in the week, beating Le Moyne, 11-1, in five innings and Quinnipiac, 4-1. The Orange also defeated Norfolk State twice in five inning run-rule contests, 9-0 and 8-0.
- The Orange pitching staff yielded just two earned runs across 22.0 innings, good for a 0.64 earned run average. Four different Syracuse pitchers recorded a win, including fifth year Jessie DiPasquale, who won her first game in an Orange uniform. Sophomore hurler Julianna Verni earned her first career save against Quinnipiac.
- Junior Taylor Posner continued to display her power, launching two home runs to go along with two doubles and nine RBI in the victories. Posner and graduate student Rebecca Clyde each had a 5 RBI performance during Monday's contests.
- Syracuse had four players bat over .500 in Norfolk, paced by senior Angel Jasso's .667 (8-for-12) performance. Jasso had two hits in all four contests, had five extra-base hits, scored seven runs and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases.
- Jasso has 45 career multi-hit games, which is tied for 10th all-time in program history with Hallie Gibbs and Rachel Park. The outfielder's five triples this season are tied with Stephanie Watts (2009) and Lisaira Daniels (2011) for the second-most in a single season.
- In the circle, senior Lindsey Hendrix ranks eighth in career innings pitched with 335.2 frames and tied for 10th with 26 victories. The southpaw is also eighth in career appearances (84) and seventh in starts (60).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
- Virginia is 15-8 overall and 3-3 in ACC play. The Cavaliers are 6-1 at home this season.
- The Cavaliers are led by Jade Hylton, who is batting .343 with three doubles and five RBI. Virginia is tied with NC State with 40 stolen bases, good for third in the conference.
- In the circle, the Cavaliers have used six different pitchers. The trio of Eden Bigham, Madison Harris and Savanah Henley had combined to toss 114 of the team's 148 innings. Virginia's 187 strikeouts are second in the country behind Stanford and the team's 2.13 ERA is fifth-best in the ACC.
