Felisha Legette-Jack has turned around the Syracuse women's basketball program in such a short time on The Hill and for that she is being recognized as one of the nation's top coaches this season. On Thursday, Legette-Jack was named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2024 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year.
The 1989 Syracuse graduate has led SU to a 23-7 record this season and in position to earn an at-large bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Legette-Jack is one of two ACC coaches on the list and is joined by Virginia Tech's Kenny Brooks who was a finalist for the award last year.Â
Legette-Jack was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year on March 6, becoming the first Syracuse coach to earn the honor in basketball since the Orange joined the ACC. She's guided Syracuse to back-to-back 20 win seasons and the Orange tied program bests in regular season wins (23), conference wins (13) and ACC road wins (6) this year. Syracuse is 4-1 against teams in the top-15 this season and completed season sweeps over Notre Dame, a program first, Boston College and Pittsburgh while splitting the regular season with top-25 foe Louisville.Â
The Orange are 14-2 at home this season and went 10-1 in nonconference play with its only loss being on the road at No. 20 Maryland in November.Â
Syracuse was picked to finish ninth in the ACC Preseason Poll. The Orange not only finished third, tying an ACC record for largest jump from outside the top-4 to inside, but earned a double bye in the ACC Tournament for the second time in school history.Â
The 2024 NCAA Tournament Selection Show is set for Sunday, March 17 at 8 p.m. Fans can join in the Orange for a watch party at APEX Entertainment at Destiny USA from 7-9 p.m.Â
