
Orange Set For Virginia Road Tilts

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team is set for the first two of four-straight ACC road matches with this weekend's slate. The Orange (9-5, 3-4 ACC) will travel to face No. 5 Virginia (13-2, 5-0) in Charlottesville, Virginia on Friday, March 22 at 4 p.m. and Virginia Tech (6-7, 1-4) in Blacksburg, Virginia on Sunday, March 24 at 11:30 a.m.

Friday marks the 17th all-time match up between 'Cuse and the Cavaliers. Viriginia has remained unbeaten in the series since 1987, holding an 11-1 record following Syracuse's sole series win against the Cavaliers and a 15-1 record overall. Sunday will be the 12th all-time meeting against the Hokies. The Orange own a slight 8-7 advantage in the series. In the last seven affairs, Virginia Tech holds a 4-3 record. Syracuse's most recent win came on March 2, 2018, where it topped the Hokies 5-2.

Virginia is on a six-match winning streak, most recently defeating Virginia Tech, 6-1, in the Commonwealth Clash. 76th-ranked Elaine Chervinsky has shown prowess in singles play, holding an 8-1 record in her last 9 matches. The pairing of Meggie Navarro and Sara Ziodato are on a two-match winning streak, holding an 8-2 record in their last 10 appearances. Virginia Tech is coming off a 5-2 loss against Liberty last Sunday. Semra Aksu is on a 5-match winning streak, going 7-3 in her last 10 singles contests. The duo of Özlem Uslu and Charlotte Cartledge have a 7-3 record in their last 10 doubles performances, with four of those wins coming against ACC opponents. Â

This past weekend, 'Cuse picked up a 4-3 win against then-No. 8 NC State before a 5-2 loss against Wake Forest. Miyuka Kimoto, Polina Kozyreva, Anastasia Sysoeva and Emilie Elde earned key singles wins against top 100 ranked opponents that put Syracuse ahead of the Wolfpack. Kimoto took down then-No. 3 Amelia Rajecki against NC State. The Oita, Japan native remained on point across the board this weekend, taking down Wake Forest's 28th ranked Casie Wooten in the number one singles spot. Viktoriya Kanapatskaya was also able to pick up a singles point against the Demon Deacons in the number three spot.

With her performance last week, Kimoto earned her first career ACC Player of the Week. She was the first 'Cuse performer to earn the nod since Gabriella Knutson in 2019.

Syracuse is set to complete their road trip next weekend in Florida. Syracuse will take on Florida State in Tallahassee on Friday, March 29 at 4:30 p.m. before heading to Coral Gables to face No. 19 Miami on Sunday, March 31 at noon.
