Orange Win Packard & Conlan Cups at Lake Morey Invite

Syracuse's varsity eight defeated Dartmouth on Saturday morning to win the Packard Cup in back-to-back races for the first time since 2011 during the morning session of races at the Lake Morey Invite in Fairlee, Vermont. In the afternoon race against Boston University, the Orange defeated the Terriers by 6.6 seconds to complete the second-straight season in which the Orange won all their cup races.Â
The Big Green topped Syracuse in the 2V8+, 3V8+ and 4V8+ to start the morning but the Orange (5:44.82) varsity eight, ranked No. 7 in the latest IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll, beat Dartmouth (5:47.01) by 2.19 seconds to win its second cup race of the regular season and improve to 5-1 this spring.Â
In the 4V8+ race, Dartmouth finished the 2,000-meter course on Lake Morey in 6:03.52 while Boston U finished in 6:05.98 (+2.16). The Orange finished in third in 6:12.65 (+9.16).Â
The 3V8+ race had Dartmouth beating Syracuse by 4.21 seconds. The Big Green crossed the finish in 5:55.53 while the Orange clocked a 5:59.74.Â
The second varsity eight race was the closest margin of the morning with Dartmouth holding off Syracuse by 0.82 seconds. Dartmouth finished in 5:47.36 and Syracuse was close by in 5:48.18.Â
In the afternoon session, Dartmouth won the 4V8+ race in 6:28.63Â over Boston University (+2.3) and Syracuse (+3.0). The Syracuse 3V8+ beat Boston University by 4.95 seconds finishing the 2k course in 6:25.63 while the Terriers crossed the line in 6:30.58.Â
In the second varsity eight race, Boston U earned a 0.4 second victory over Syracuse (6:10.77) in the final strokes of the race. SU's varsity eight clocked a 6:07.71 2k in the afternoon over BU's 6:14.37.
Senior Lachlan Doust made his spring season debut in the 2V8+ which moved Reilly Eagan to the 3V8+ while Andrew Furlow moved to the 4V8+ to replace Prestmann Agraz who became one of the Orange spares for the afternoon races.Â
The Lake Morey Invite wraps up Sunday morning beginning at 8:10 a.m. with the Varsity Eight race against Georgetown.Â
