#9 Orange Defeat #8 Stanford and #20 Oregon State to Begin Season
4/6/2024 12:45:00 PM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse men's rowing team began its spring season with a sweep of Stanford and Oregon State on Saturday morning in Redwood Shores, Calif, at the Pac-12 Invite. Syracuse will complete the weekend on Sunday morning racing #1 California.Â
"I thought a solid first day of racing for us," Syracuse Head Coach Dave Reischman said. "We have a lot of guys racing up a boat or two from where they sat last year and I think they handled their new roles very well. We really focus on our ability to make changes from race to race and we did a nice job of that today.  Tomorrow morning will be the toughest test of the weekend and I am eager to see if we can continue with our theme of showing improvement each race. "
The Orange Varsity Eight (1V8), which begins the season ranked No. 9 in the IRCA/IRA Poll, defeated No. 8 Stanford, by six seconds in the first race of the day for Syracuse. 'Cuse, coxed by senior Michael Harris with Declan Fry in stroke seat, finished the 2,000 meter course in 5:45.5 while Stanford's top crew finished in 5:51.5.Â
Syracuse's 2V8 crossed the finish in 5:54.0, beating Stanford's second varsity eight (6:05.5) by 11.5 seconds. Junior Joseph Biondolillo guided the Orange 2V8 with Syracuse sophomore Anders Erlandsen in stroke seat and graduate student Max McFadden in bow.Â
