Syracuse women's basketball's Felisha Legette-Jack was honored as this year's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Kay Yow Heart of a Coach Award recipient on Sunday morning in Cleveland as part of the NCAA Women's Final Four weekend.Â
Named for the late North Carolina State coaching icon Kay Yow, the award is presented annually by FCA to honor a basketball coach who has exemplified biblical principles over the course of his or her career. The late Kay Yow, who passed away from breast cancer in 2009, was presented with the inaugural award at the 2008 Women's Final Four in Tampa.
"I am humbled to receive the Kay Yow Coach of the Year Award from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes," Legette-Jack said in a statement. "This is truly a full-circle situation from where we began our season, when all that we had was faith. To receive this award is the culmination of persistence and faith to be great by our student athletes. I accept this honor and to God be the glory, who Is the head of my life."Â
Legette-Jack was named ACC Coach of the Year and guided the Orange to its first NCAA Tournament since 2021. After missing a month of preseason due to a medical situation which required three procedures to remove a non-cancerous brain tumor that was effecting her vision, Legette-Jack led the Orange through one of their best seasons in program history finishing 24-8 overall and 13-5 in the ACC. The Orange tied program bests in regular season wins (23), conference wins (13) and ACC road wins (6) en route to finishing tied for the second-best record in the conference. The Orange defeated Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before an eight point loss to UConn ended the SU season.Â
