
Layton Named Midfielder to Watch by United Soccer Coaches

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer graduate transfer Sam Layton was named a 2024 Midfielder to Watch according to United Soccer Coaches, as announced by the organization on Friday evening.
Layton, a Brisbane, Australia native, came to Upstate New York after spending five seasons at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). During his time with the Cougars, he made 53 appearances, including 38 starts.
Layton is coming off a strong 2023 campaign where he recorded six assists and one goal in the midfield. He also helped SIUE win the OVC Tournament, earning a spot on the OVC All-Tournament Team.
Layton and the Orange will take the pitch for their first exhibition match on Saturday, August 10 (6 p.m.), when the team hosts St. Bonaventure. The contest is one of two home exhibition matches that 'Cuse will play in, also hosting Marist on Tuesday, August 13 (6 p.m.). Syracuse will kick off its regular season campaign on Thursday, August 22 (7 p.m.), at Colgate, before returning to SU Soccer Stadium for its home opener against Niagara on Sunday, August 25 (7 p.m.).
