SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer was tabbed No. 20 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches poll, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
The Orange are coming off an 0-1-1 week that started with a 2-2 draw with Charlotte on Thursday, Aug. 29. After facing a one-goal deficit at halftime, freshman Kristjan Fortier sent a strike from outside the box to the back of the net to help his team earn a point at home.
Syracuse then took on fellow Salt City school, Le Moyne, on Monday, Sept. 2. Although the Orange paced the game on offense, outshooting the Dolphins 28-5, it was the opposition who earned a 1-0 victory.
Syracuse is one of seven ACC teams included in the week-two rankings. The other six schools include reigning National Champion, Clemson (No. 2), Stanford (No. 5), Pittsburgh (No. 8), North Carolina (No. 12), Louisville (No. 15), and SMU (No. 22). Virginia Tech (19) is also receiving votes towards the poll.
The Orange were also included in the latest edition of TopDrawerSoccer's rankings at No. 21.
Syracuse hits the road for its first ACC match of the season against Boston College on Friday, Sept. 6. First touch is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will be live on ACC Network Extra.
