SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer has signed eight incoming freshmen to its 2025 recruiting class, as announced by head coach Ian McIntyre and his coaching staff on Friday afternoon.
"We are delighted to welcome these outstanding young men to Syracuse," McIntyre said. "This new group will need time to grow and adjust to college soccer and life in the ACC, but we will have exciting competition at each position within our team. Once again, we will have one of the toughest schedules in the country and we will learn a great deal about our young group early in the campaign. Hopefully we will continue to evolve and improve as a group, so that we can be playing our best soccer in November and December."
Emanuel Cappello - Markham, Ontario, Canada – Bill Crothers Secondary School
A forward from Markham, Ontario, Canada, Cappello is a product of the Toronto FC system, most recently training with the club's MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Toronto FC II. This past year, he also had the opportunity to train with the Canadian National Team under Coach Jesse Marsch and his staff.
"Emanuel has the technical ability, the creativity, and the directness to make an immediate impact here at Syracuse University," McIntyre said. "He is an intelligent, dynamic player with the ability to deliver the important final pass. Emanuel has a confidence and a swagger to his game as he looks to keep defenders on the back foot. I am looking forward to quickly integrating him into our team."
Quentin Christey - Vaughan, Ontario, Canada – Holy Cross Catholic Academy
Christey, a midfielder from Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, has been a member of the Canadian National Team U17 program and recently had the opportunity to train with the full Canadian National Team. A product of the Toronto FC Academy, he has competed alongside fellow incoming freshmen Cappello, Josh Nugent, and Pablo Patrick-Galvez.
"Quentin possesses the confidence, composure, and technique to impose himself on any soccer match," McIntyre mentioned. "He is constantly on the move, plays with a contagious enthusiasm, and fits extremely well into our system of play. We are delighted to be able to add such a talented player to our midfield this fall."
Landon Darko - Fairburn, Ga. – Landmark Christian School
Darko, a midfielder from Fairburn, Ga., competes for the Southern Soccer Academy in MLS NEXT, where he has established himself as the club's all-time leading goal scorer. He has also excelled at the high school level, breaking all goal-scoring records at Landmark Christian School.
"We are thrilled to add a player of Landon's quality to our program," McIntyre said. "He brings us another terrific attacking option while providing us a dangerous focal point and an outlet through which to play. Landon complements our existing players, and he can score goals and create opportunities for his teammates. I am looking forward to seeing Landon in a Syracuse shirt this fall, and he is very excited to prove himself within the ACC."
Faris Ibraheem – Brampton, Ontario, Canada – St. Martins High School
Ibraheem, a native of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, is a versatile fullback/winger competing for the Vaughan Azzurri, a program that has produced several Syracuse players, including Kamal Miller, Ryan Raposo, Christian Curti, and Massimo Ferrin. He has played a key role in Vaughan's youth success, contributing to multiple provincial and regional championships, while also representing the senior team in League One competition.
"Faris is a direct, powerful player who possesses the ability to go by opponents and provide excellent service from wide areas," mentioned McIntyre. "He is a talented player who has all the tools to make a successful transition to ACC soccer."
Callum Lugton – Portland, Ore. – Baker Charter School
A native of Portland, Ore., Lugton is a product of the Portland Timbers Academy and played a key role in leading the team to the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup Championship, securing wins over Manchester United and Valencia. The forward has been called into U.S. Youth National Team training camps and has also represented Portland Timbers 2 in MLS NEXT Pro.
"Callum is a quick, dynamic, and versatile player who will provide us additional quality in the final third," McIntyre stated. "He possesses excellent balance, close technical control, and he has the ability to score goals from a variety of different positions."
Juan Martinez Bastidas – Greenville, S.C. – J.L. Mann High School
Martinez-Bastidas has been a standout goalkeeper for the Charlotte FC Academy, earning a starting role while also gaining experience with Crown Legacy FC in MLS NEXT Pro. The Greenville, S.C., native previously led Carolina Elite Soccer Academy to a 2021 ECNL National Championship and trained with Greenville Triumph SC in USL League One. Enrolled this spring, Martinez-Bastidas is currently training with the Orange.
"Juan is a young goalkeeper who we believe has the potential to compete for a starting role here at Syracuse," said McIntyre. "He is a big presence in goal, an excellent shot stopper, and he possesses a real drive to improve. It is fantastic to have Juan join us here on campus this spring and he will fit in great within our competitive goalkeeping group under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Santiago Restrepo."
"Juan is a big goalkeeper who is a great shot stopper," said Restrepo. "He brings great experience playing and training at a high level for respected clubs. We are thrilled to have Juan join the Syracuse family."
Josh Nugent – Brampton, Ontario, Canada – Holy Cross Catholic Academy
From Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Nugent is a forward for the Toronto FC U19 Academy and the club's top scorer in MLS NEXT play. He helped lead the academy team to the 2024 League One Reserve League Championship and is currently training with Toronto FC II ahead of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season.
"Josh is a powerful, athletic, attacking player who has enjoyed a terrific year for Toronto FC," McIntyre mentioned. "Josh has the technical ability and the tactical understanding to challenge ACC defenders. He provides us another top-level attacking option who can stretch the game with his pace, movement, and his directness. Josh is a terrific complement to our returning attackers, and we look forward to quickly integrating him into our team."
Pablo Patrick Galvez - Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Bloor Collegiate Institute
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Patrick-Galvez is a central defender for Toronto FC and previously played alongside current Syracuse players Kristjan Fortier and Chimere Omeze on the U19 academy team. He was one of 44 players selected to compete in the 2024 MLS NEXT All-Star Game at Crew Stadium in Ohio.
"Pablo is an intelligent, composed player who will fit in well to the style of play of our team," said McIntyre. "He has been an important part of a very good Toronto FC team, and I believe that Pablo has both the physical and technical tools to establish himself as a dominant defender in the ACC."
