Men’s Soccer Welcomes Matty Evans to Coaching Staff

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer has hired Matty Evans as the team's new assistant coach, as announced by head coach Ian McIntyre on Tuesday. The experienced Evans comes to Central New York on the heels of a two-season stint as an assistant coach for Dartmouth.
"Matty is a fantastic addition to our program," said McIntyre. "He is a players' coach, an excellent communicator, and a terrific complement to our coaching staff. Matty will successfully support, challenge, and mentor our student-athletes on and off the soccer pitch. We are delighted to welcome Matty and his wife Rachel to Syracuse."

Evans was named as the top assistant coach of Dartmouth men's soccer in January 2023. During his time with the Big Green, he showcased strong recruiting skills, bringing in two first-years ranked among the top 25 freshmen in the country by TopDrawerSoccer. He also contributed to Dartmouth's success with 10 All-Conference selections during his tenure.
Prior to his two seasons with the Big Green, Evans served as associate head coach at Robert Morris in 2021 and 2022. He played a key role in the Colonials' turnaround, helping them go from a one-win season in 2020 to back-to-back Horizon League Tournament appearances, their first postseason berths since 2017.
Before his time at RMU, Evans had a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Appalachian State. While with the Mountaineers, he helped guide the team to its winningest season since 2002. App State set a program record with eight shutouts and secured its highest-ever finish in the Sun Belt Conference regular season standings, placing third.
Before transitioning to the Division I level, Evans spent the 2018 season as an assistant coach at Lander University, helping the Bearcats to an impressive 16-2-3 (.833) record. During the campaign, Lander reached as high as No. 1 in the Division II rankings, advanced to the Elite Eight, recorded an NCAA DII-record 16 shutouts, and finished the season ranked No. 5 nationally.
In the fall of 2017, Evans served as an assistant coach at West Chester University, helping the Golden Rams to a 14-3-2 record, including a perfect 11-0 conference slate and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season title. His efforts also contributed to West Chester's first NCAA DII Sweet 16 appearance in over 50 years.
Evans graduated from Seton Hill University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management while competing for the Griffins' men's soccer team. As a goalkeeper, he started 36 games over two seasons, recording 131 saves and a .744 save percentage. A two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete (2014, 2015), he also received the 2015 NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, graduating with a 3.76 GPA.
Following his collegiate career, Evans played with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds U23 team. He also competed with Luton Town F.C. prior to his time in college.
Evans joins a Syracuse program that finished the 2024 season with a 7-7-3 record and aims to return to the NCAA Tournament in 2025.
