
ACC Tabs Uche Izoje as ACC Rookie of the Week

Syracuse freshman Uche Izoje continued her dominant season, earning ACC Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time after leading the Orange to a 2-0 week in conference play. The versatile forward proved instrumental in victories over California and Stanford, averaging 17.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.
Izoje posted a double-double in both contests, beginning with a stellar 22-point, 13-rebound performance in Syracuse's triple overtime win over California on Jan. 15. She controlled the paint with five blocks and shot 10-of-25 from the field while adding two steals. Additionally, she played the final minutes of regulation and all three overtime periods with four fouls. Three days later against Stanford, Izoje recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes, contributing two blocks and two steals in the victory.
Through the two-game stretch, Izoje shot 39.5 percent from the field and displayed her prowess on the boards with seven offensive rebounds and 16 defensive rebounds. Her defensive presence anchored Syracuse's effort, as she combined for seven blocks further adding to her defensive effort.
Izoje leads the ACC in blocks per game (2.9) and is second in field goal percentage (.556).Â
