“Stephanie is a true role model for these kids,” Coach Yelin said. “She was a great student and a very good player, and she was a leader with great work ethic. She has earned everything she has through hard work and it has helped her to get where she is today.”
A three-year starter and a two-time captain for the Cardinals for Coach Yelin, Cantway was an integral part in helping the U of L reach the NCAA Tournament four-consecutive years and the Sweet 16 in two of those seasons. Louisville was ranked as high as No. 6 in the national polls her junior year.
While excelling on the court, Cantway also shined in the classroom as she was an Academic All-District selection in 2005, and a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll every year of her career.
Following an undergraduate B.S. business management degree in the spring of 2006, Cantway remained at Louisville for two years to earn a master’s degree in business administration.
Cantway then joined the Louisville staff as a volunteer assistant in the fall of 2008, before eventually being hired on as a full-time assistant in the winter of 2009 where she coached for two seasons.
Last year Cantway was the assistant coach at Division II Bellmaine University in Louisville, Ky. She guided the Knights to a 13-12 record in her only season.
Cantway and her husband, Tyler, have a seven month year old son, Collin.
“I did not hesitate one second when I was looking for an assistant coach,” Yelin said. “She has proven you can be a great coach, a great wife and a great mother with the proper balance. That is why she is a great role model for our student-athletes. She is a rising star.”
