
No. 2 Hoyas Defeat Orangewomen, 11-6

SYRACUSE, NY - The seventh-ranked Syracuse women’s lacrosse team lost 11-6 to No. 2 Georgetown in its third straight game against a top-ten opponent on Friday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
The Orangewomen (2-2, 0-1 BIG EAST) were defeated in their first conference game of the season, while Georgetown increased its record to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
Sophomore attacker Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) led SU with three goals, and junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) followed with two tallies.
Georgetown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Gloria Lozano started the scoring off with a goal 53 seconds into the game. Syracuse was within one, 3-2, after goals by Wayne and Zimmer but Georgetown’s balanced attack kept the pressure on and entered half ahead, 5-3, with five different players doing the scoring.
The Hoyas outscored the Orangewomen, 6-3, in the second half to secure the top position in The BIG EAST Conference. Georgetown outshot SU, 27-15, and held the advantage in ground balls, 39-18. Lozano led Georgetown with three goals in the contest.
Syracuse takes to the road next weekend against Boston College on Friday, March 22 and Massachusetts on Sunday, March 24.
