
No. 16 Syracuse Holds Off Late BU Rally For A 12-11 Victory

SYRACUSE, NY - Syracuse women’s lacrosse defeated Boston University, 12-11, despite a second-half rally by the Terriers on Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
Boston University (4-9) scored nine goals in the second half, including three in the last minute of play, but Syracuse (8-5) won the final draw control with 22 seconds remaining and held onto the win.
Junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) started the scoring off for the Orangewomen with a free-position goal and then assisted on a Jessica Trombley (Kueka Park, NY/Penn Yan) tally to make it 3-0. Wayne’s 29th assist of the season tied her with Katrina Hable ‘01 for most assists in a career at SU with 56.
Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) scored the first of her three goals to give SU a 4-0 lead. BU’s leading goal scorer Erika Hergenroeder put the Terriers on the board with a goal at 16:15. Alyssa Truedel followed to bring BU with two, 4-2.
SU rattled off four more goals before half, including two points by sophomore Cristine Doran (Corning, NY/Corning) to put the Orangewomen up at intermission, 8-2.
Boston University scored four goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to bring the Terriers within two, 8-6. Freshman Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) found the back of the cage for the second time in the game to keep SU ahead 9-6.
Soults’ free-position goal gave Syracuse a 12-8 advantage with seven minutes left in the game and it would be enough to secure the victory.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, April 28 when it faces Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
