
Orangewomen Lose to Hoyas in Overtime

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Ð The Syracuse University women's basketball team lost its fourth consecutive game Wednesday night, losing an 82-75 overtime decision to Georgetown at Manley Field House. The Orangewomen are now to 5-10 and 0-4 in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas improved to 11-2 and 2-1 in the conference.
Junior Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I.,/LaSalle) tied her career-high with 28 points for Syracuse. She scored the first six points for SU as the Orangewomen jumped out to an 8-5 lead. Georgetown responded with a 17-0 run over a four minute span to take a 26-12 lead with 8:08 to play. The Hoyas led 35-26 at the break.
Syracuse began the second half with a 15-2 spurt, giving them a 41-37 lead with 15:43 to go. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way, with neither team leading by more than seven points. PerryÕs lay-up with 10 seconds remaining tied the score at 71-71 and sent the game to overtime.
After junior guard #Julie McBrideÕs# (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) lay-up to begin overtime, Georgetown outscored Syracuse 11-2 the rest of the way to provide the final margin.
McBride finished the game with 12 points and eight assists. She moved into a tie for most three-pointers made in a career with her 147th trey. She has now made at least one three-pointer in a career-high 15 straight games. Sophomore Rochelle Coleman (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) netted 21 points and junior April Jean (Sacramento, Calif./Coffeyville C.C.) threw in 10 points.
For Georgetown, Rebekkah Brunson led the way with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Sarah Jenkins added 18 points and Nok Duany scored 15.
The Orangewomen are back in action on Saturday, January 18 when they travel to Boston College. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
