
BU Edges No. 11 Orangewomen, 7-6

BOSTON, MA - The No. 11 Syracuse University women’s lacrosse team lost to unranked Boston University, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon in Massachusetts.
The Orangewomen (9-4) lost to the Terriers (10-4) for the first time in the history of their program. Five of the six games against BU have been one-goal decisions, including a 9-8 SU overtime victory during the 1999 season. SU is 2-4 on the road this season.
Sophomore Monica Joines led the Orangewomen with four goals. The midfielder scored the first two goals of the game to give SU an early 2-0 advantage. After BU got on the scoreboard, senior Kim Wayne scored off a free-position to put SU ahead, 3-1.
Boston University controlled the ball for the last five minutes of the first half, but the SU defense held the Terriers scoreless into intermission. BU started off the second half with three unanswered goals to take its first lead of the game, 4-3, at 35:16. Joines tied the game at 4-4 and again at 5-5 off a free-position.
The Terriers scored the next two goals to take its largest lead of the game, 7-5, at 52:39. Sophomore Jessica Bell scored to cut the lead to one, 7-6, with 3:37 left in the game, but BU held the Orangewomen scoreless for the final minutes.
Caroline Kelleher led BU with three goals. The Terriers forced 11 SU turnovers in the game.
Syracuse returns home to face No. 1 Loyola on Saturday, April 26 at 5 p.m.
