
No. 1 Loyola Holds Off SU's Second Half Rally

SYRACUSE, NY - The No. 1 Greyhounds held off a late second-half rally to defeat No. 11 Syracuse, 14-10, on Saturday evening in the Carrier Dome.
Loyola remains undefeated with a 14-0 record, while Syracuse stands at 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the BIG EAST.
Five Orangewomen scored two goals each in the loss. Junior Leigh-Ann Zimmer led the team with four points on two goals and two assists.
Loyola took its largest lead of the game, 13-5, at the 49:00 mark. Syracuse responded with four unanswered goals, including back-to-back tallies by sophomore Monica Joines, to cut the lead to four, 13-9, with 2:42 left in the game.
After a Loyola goal, senior Jessica Trombley tallied her second goal to cut the advantage to four again, 14-10, with 58 seconds on the clock. The Greyhounds were able to run out the clock to secure the victory.
Syracuse took its only lead of the game, 2-1, after sophomore Jessica Bell found the back of the net at 11:20. Loyola scored seven of the next eight goals to take a 8-3 halftime lead.
Freshman Stephanie Walker led SU with five draw controls and also recorded two groundballs and one caused turnover.
Suzanne Eyler led Loyola with four goals. Jaclyn Borrone recorded three goals and one assist.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, May 3 when it faces Northwestern at 1 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
