
Zimmer Breaks Career Points Record in 16-13 Win Against Huskies

SYRACUSE, N.Y.
Zimmer, surpassed Katrina Hable who previously held the record with 183 points, with an assist on sophomore Melody Agnew’s goal at 10:33 versus the Huskies. Zimmer now has 186 career points. She has recorded 27 points this season (21 goals, six assists) and scored at least four points in five of SU’s six games.
The Orangewomen used a 6-0 run at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second period to break open what was a 5-5 game at 25:55. Sophomore Meghan O’Connell and junior Monica Joines each tallied two goals in the spurt as Syracuse grabbed an 11-5 lead at the 31:36 mark. Connecticut got a free-position goal from Shannon Burke and a tally by Kariane Lauri 36 second apart to make the score 11-7 at 34:40. Senior Danielle Lillis netted consecutive goals for Syracuse to reclaim a six goal margin, 13-7. The Huskies weren’t done yet as Connecticut notched four of the game’s next five goals, three of them coming from Laurie, to close the gap to 14-11 at 51:20. Each team scored twice down the stretch as the Orangewomen preserved the three-goal victory.
Lillis finished the game with four goals, tying her personal best, which she previously set against Virginia in 2003. O’Connell also set a new career-high with three goals versus the Huskies. She surpassed her previous best of two goals, which she tied on March 23 against California. Joines contributed five points (four goals, one assist). It was the second her second consecutive five-point outing. Sophomore Jennifer Kasel made 11 saves in goal and freshman Jill DePetris contributed a goal and two assists for Syracuse.
Laurie paced the Huskies with a game-high seven points (five goals, two assists). Tracy Mullaney tallied four points on two goals and two assists, while Burke and Kristen Link each scored twice for Connecticut. Jennifer Wong made 13 saves for the Huskies.
The Orangewomen have never lost to Connecticut, owning a 7-0 record in the all-time series, including a 4-0 record in matches at the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse will return to action on Tuesday, March 30 when it hosts Colgate in double-header with the men’s lacrosse team at Dome. The Orangewomen will play at 4:00 p.m. with the men’s matchup against Hobart to follow.
