
Pike Sparks Eight-Goal Run; SU Defeats Boston College, 14-10

Box Score CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Freshman Ashley Pike scored her first career goal, initiating an 8-0 Orangewomen scoring run, as No. 13 Syracuse (8-3, 4-1) posted a 14-10 triumph against Boston College (5-9, 0-6) on Sunday, April 18 at Alumni Stadium. With SU trailing 2-1, Pike received a pass from senior Leigh-Ann Zimmer and beat Boston College keeper Tara McKennett at the 10:55 mark to tie the game. The goal was the first of eight tallies the Orangewomen registered during the next 13:18 to push SU’s advantage to 9-2 with 5:47 remaining in the opening half. Sophomore Stephanie Walker and freshman Jill DePetris each notched back-to-back goals in the run. Boston College’s Courtney Legath cut the SU margin to 9-4 at halftime with two goals in the final 2:28 of the first period. The Eagles opened the second frame by scoring two of period’s first three goals to make the score 10-6 at 36:47. SU junior Caitlyn Dragon found the back of the net on a feed from junior Monica Joines to increase the Orangewomen’s lead to 11-6. The Eagles recorded three of the contest’s next four goals to pull within three, 12-9, at 43:36. The Orangewomen’s defense kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for the next 15:04 and notched two goals during that span to secure the win. The Eagles’ Meggie O’Neill scored on a free-position opportunity with 1:20 left to produce the final score. Zimmer tied her personal-best with four assists in the match. The performane also tied her for the third-most assists by an SU performer in a single game and moved her into a tie for second on the Orangewomen’s all-time assists ledger with Katrina Hable (56). Zimmer also recorded a goal and contributed one ground ball and one draw control versus the Eagles. Walker and Dragon posted career-highs with two goals. Joines and DePetris each contributed hat tricks for the Orangewomen and recorded four points on the day. Carley St. Lucia paced Boston College with four points (two goals, two assists). Legath and O’Neill each scored twice and registered assists in the game for the Eagles. Susie Breaznell also scored two goals. The Orangewomen are now 7-0 all-time against Boston College. Syracuse returns home for its first-ever meeting with Denver on Friday, April 23 at 7:30 in the Carrier Dome.
