
Lillis Has Career Game in Final Carrier Dome Appearance

SYRACUSE, N.Y.
Lillis, who was honored in a brief ceremony as part of SU’s senior night, notched two goals in each half and also contributed an assist against the Pioneers (5-8). She also picked up two ground balls and added a team-high five draw controls. Her performance moved her into sole possession of seventh-place on the Orangewomen’s career goals ledger with 62 tallies. She also claimed sole possesion of 10th place on SU’s all-time assists list and now has 15 helpers in her career.
The Orangewomen withstood a furious second-half rally by the Pioneers that saw Denver score seven of the game’s final nine goals. With SU leading by 10, 14-4, at 41:40, the Pioneers notched five consecutive goals in the next 3:39 next pull within five, 14-9, with 11:37 remaining in the contest. Senior Leigh-Ann Zimmer halted the run with an unassisted goal at 52:07. The Pioneers scored two more goals, but Lillis put the finishing touch on the victory when she took a pass from junior Courtney Palladino and fired a shot past Denver goalie Steph Schneider with four seconds left to play.
Syracuse built their advantage on the strength of a 7-0 run that spanned 8:46. Junior Monica Joines at 28:36 to give the Orangewomen an 8-4 margin at the the half. She then netted three of SU’s six goals to open the second period. Zimmer and junior Caitlyn Dragon tallied the other two to give Syracuse a 14-4 advantage at the 37:32 mark.
Joines finished with a personal-best five goals and also added one assist in the contest for a total of six points. Zimmer contributed four points (three goals, one assist). The assist gave her sole possesion of second place on the Orangewomen’s career assists ledger with 57. She now has 55 points this season, two shy of tying Katrina Hable’s single-season record, which was set in 1999.
In all seven Orangewomen found the scoring column against Denver. Palladino finished with a goal and an assist, while freshman Jill DePetris and sophomore Meghan O'Connell also contributed goals in the match.
Steph Greenlees paced the Pioneers with four points (two goals, two assists). Crystal Jack added two goals and one assist for a total of three points. Patience Baldwin and Kate Broderick also scored twice for Denver. Baldwin also tallied five draw controls.
The contest marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams and improved SU’s all-time record to 3-0 versus teams that currently compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Syracuse will play the first of three away games on Tuesday, April 27 when they face off against Cornell at 7:00 p.m.
