HAMILTON, N.Y. – Freshman Erin Schirm posted a first-place finish in the 6,000-meter run and senior Jillian Kosinski tallied a fifth-place finish in the 4,200-meter run to lead the Syracuse B men’s and women’s cross country teams at the Harry Lang Invitational hosted by Colgate.

“Overall, it was a good day for us,” said third-year Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “Our women’s team ran great today, and I was especially pleased with what I saw from our men’s team.”

Schirm’s time of 19:33.00 finished first and just one spot better than teammate and fellow classmate Michael Brock’s time of 19:39.00. Junior Robert Cary (4^th, 19:57.00), freshman Stephen Benedict (6^th, 20:05.00), sophomore Anthony Socotch (8^th, 20:11.00) and freshman Nathaniel Saviet (9^th, 20:19.00) completed Syracuse’s top 10 finishes in the 6,000-meter run. Syracuse (13) won the event in front of Nazareth (32), Colgate (40), St. Rose (55) and Mohawk (70).

With Syracuse’s (26) second-place finish in the 4,200-meter run, Kosinski paced the women’s attack with a time of 17:15.00. Lisa Giacometti (8^th, 17:31.00) and Deanna Schmitt (10^th, 17:59.00) rounded out the Orange scores in the top 10. Colgate (10) won the event with Nazareth (42), Delhi (61) and Mohawk (71) placing behind the Orange.

The Syracuse men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, September 8 at the Binghamton Invitational. Competition considered for the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s National Poll does not begin until Saturday, September 29.
