
Morton, Todd Lead SU at Marquette

Senior middle blocker Sarah Morton and junior Hayley Todd each tallied 10 kills as Syracuse (18-6, 7-2) dropped a 3-1 decision to Marquette (15-9, 4-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. The loss was the first for the Orange since Sept. 27, snapping a seven-match win streak.
“It was Marquette's day,” assistant coach Carol LaMarche said. “They were on their game both offensively and defensively. We couldn't get going enough to match them.”
Senior outside hitter Annabelle Pellerin chipped in nine kills while sophomore outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre added six. Freshman setter Laura Homann fueled the offense, dishing out 33 assists.
Defensively, the Orange held an 11-7 advantage in blocks, led by freshman middle blocker Samantha Hinz who had six total rejections. Pellerin added four rejections while Morton and Homann had three each. Senior libero Shanetha McLaurin led the back row with 13 digs while Lefebvre picked up nine.
Marquette opened strong, taking the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-22. Syracuse cut the deficit with a 25-23 victory in the third set before the Golden Eagles solidified its 3-1 victory with a 25-19 fourth-set win.
Syracuse breaks from conference action with a visit to Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sunday, October 25 at 1 p.m. ET.
