INDIANAPOLIS – For the second third consecutive academic year, the Syracuse University men and women's cross country teams have been named NCAA Division I Academic Performance Rate (APR) public recognition award-winners. The Orange harriers boasted a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of team in Division I cross country.
“Coach Fox and his team continue to be champions on and off the field,” said Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. “They are setting an example of what the highest achievements in sports should reflect.”
The Orange men and women are two of 69 cross country programs to earn the scholastic honor. Syracuse is just one of four BIG EAST affiliates to claim the accolade in cross country. Additionally, the Orange is the only conference member to be represented by both the men and women cross country programs.
“I am very proud of both the men and women's cross country teams' excellence in the classroom,” said Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “With the success they are having both athletically and academically they truly define what it means to be a 'student-athlete.'”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving public recognition awards this year posted APR scores ranging from 976 to a perfect 1,000.
