
Orange Opens BIG EAST Play

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a winning weekend at home, the seventh-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team heads to Louisville, Ky., for a pair of games against No.16 Louisville and the University of Michigan. The Orange will take on the Cardinals in the on Fri., Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. SU will face off against the Wolverines on Sat., Sept. 19, at 3 p.m.
Syracuse and Louisville are tied, 3-3, in the all-time series between the teams. The Orange emerged victorious in the 2008 edition of the rivalry, shutting out the Cardinals by a score of 3-0 at J.S. Coyne Stadium. UofL's last victory versus SU came in 2007, a 2-1 double overtime win at home.
Michigan holds a 2-1 advantage in the series against Syracuse. The teams last met in 2004, when the Wolverines dominated the Orange by the score of 4-0. SU's lone win against UM came in 1995 at Ann Arbor.
SU improved to 5-1 on the season last weekend with a pair of victories versus ranked opponents. Against No. 9 Old Dominion on Sept. 11, junior forward Lindsey Conrad provided the game-winning goal in overtime, her fifth tally of the season, to seal a 2-1 victory for SU. Versus No. 7 Michigan State on Sept. 13, SU was powered to another 2-1 advantage by the overtime heroics of freshman back Amy Kee. The freshman netted her first career goal for the Orange, along with her sixth assist of the season, first in the BIG EAST rankings.
Kee is joined by Conrad (5 goals, 10 points, 25 shots) and Leann Stiver (1.53 GAA, .818 Sv%) atop the statistical leader board for the Orange. Stiver's .818 mark ranks first among BIG EAST netminders.
