SYRACUSE, N.Y – The Syracuse women's basketball plays its first of three games inside historic Manley Field House when it plays hosts to Alabama State University on Thursday, November 19. The Orange welcomes the Lady Hornets to the Manley Field House for an historical first time match-up.
Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson returns for her eleventh season as head coach. A former forward for the Lady Hornets she is the winningest women's basketball coach at ASU. She returns 12 players from the previous season and signed six new-comers that replaced three departed guards.
In the 2008-09, Freeman-Jackson led the Lady Hornets to a 14-16 overall record and an 11-17 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. ASU was tied for second place in the SWAC conference before being defeated by Mississippi Valley State in the first round of the conference tournament. With just more than a minute to play the Lady Hornets had a chance to tie it up but with a failed 3-point shot attempt and a missed layup it ended in a 43-48 loss.
