
Thanksgiving in Cancun

SYRACUSE, N.Y – It will be no holiday when the Syracuse women's basketball team travels to Cancun, Mexico for The Cancun Thanksgiving Classic. Syracuse plays two non-conference games beginning with Old Dominion on Thursday, November 26. Win or lose the Orange then plays Butler on Friday, November 27. Both are scheduled to tip-off at 8:15 p.m. ET at the Kuchil Baxal Gymnasium.
The Syracuse and Old Dominion matchup will be the first time these two programs played each other since the 2000-01 season. Old Dominion currently leads with the all-time 7-3 advantage.
The Lady Monarchs are led by head coach Wendy Larry who is currently entering her 21st season and holds a 503-165 record. Last season Larry guided ODU to an overall 17-14 record. The Lady Monarchs return four players who started double-digit games last season and eight letter-winners overall.
The Syracuse and Butler matchup will mark the first meeting between the two teams. In the 2008-09 season the Bulldogs finished with a 20-2 overall record, second in the Horizon League and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. Head coach Beth Couture returns four starters and 10 letterwinners in all, including three players who averaged over nine points per game.
