
Lindsey Conrad’s Hat-trick Propels SU

SYRACUSE – Junior forward Lindsey Conrad recorded her first hat-trick of the season (third of her career) as the sixth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team shutout Columbia University, 6-0, this afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The Orange improves to 9-1 with its sixth consecutive victory, while the Lions move to 3-4.
Freshman forward Heather Susek tallied SU's first goal 29:13 into the contest. Sophomore forward Nicole Nelson provided the assist off the penalty corner.
“The team stayed hungry in the second half, which is always a good thing,” head coach Ange Bradley said. “We need to continue to get better and today was just another step in that direction.”
Syracuse exploded in the second half for five goals, the first by Conrad at 46:27. Susek scored her second goal of the day off another Orange penalty corner just a minute later. Sophomore midfielder Martina Loncarica was credited with the assist.
Conrad scored SU's next two goals at 58:32 and 61:10. Sophomore forward Iona Holloway recorded her first career point, handing out an assist on Conrad's goal at 58:32.
Freshman forward Kelsey Millman rounded out the scoring for the Orange, tipping in a ball from Conrad at 63:05.
Freshman goalkeeper Leann Stiver did not have to make a save in her first career shutout. Christie O'Hara and Erin Conway combined to make three saves for the Lions.
Syracuse outshot Columbia, 26-1, and held a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Orange returns to action on Saturday, October 3, when it hosts Massachusetts at noon.
