VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Syracuse Olympian Stefanie Marty and her native Swiss National Team will go for a No. 5 world ranking when Switzerland faces off against Russia in a women's classification game on Monday, February 22 at 10 p.m. Marty, who is coming off a four-goal performance against China, currently ranks second in goals scored in the women's tournament with seven.
Despite being eliminated from medal contention after opening the tournament with losses to Sweden and Canada, Marty has led the Swiss to rebound with victories against Slovakia and China by a combined 11-2. The SU assistant captain contributed two of the team's four goals in a late third period rally to beat the Slovaks, 5-2, on Feb. 17. She continued her heroics on Feb. 20 when she scored four goals and added one helper to finish with five points and shutout the Chinese, 6-0. Prior to its last two wins, Switzerland had just one victory in its Olympic history.
