
Orange Announces Team Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team wrapped up its second season by handing out four team awards at its end of the year banquet on Sunday evening. All awards were voted on by the team. In just its second season, head coach Paul Flanagan led the Orange to an 18-17-1 record, while making its debut in the national rankings and securing its first postseason win in program history.
Freshman forward Isabel Menard was named the team's Rookie of the Year after finishing the season as SU's leading scorer. She was first in points (37) and assists (22), while her 15 goals was second. The Ottawa, Ontario native ended her freshman campaign second in points per game (1.06) among rookies, while also tying for fifth in the league and 24th in the NCAA in assists per game (0.63). She was a unanimous selection for the CHA Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-CHA First Team and CHA All-Rookie Team.
The team acknowledged its Most Improved Player in freshman blueliner Linnea Chruscielski The Duluth, Minn. product earned playing time on the ice and saw action in five games this season.
Junior forward Stefanie Marty garnered the Coaches' Award, which is given to an individual who displays passion, commitment, dedication and work ethic both on and off the ice. Marty was Syracuse's first Winter Olympian for her native Swiss National Team at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. It didn't take long for Marty to emerge as an offensive star as she went on to became just the third woman to score eight or more goals in one Olympics. She was second in goals scored in the tournament (8) and helped Switzerland secure a fifth-place finish in only its second Olympic appearance. Her successes this season didn't end there, as she also finished tied for first on her Syracuse team in goals (16) and tied for second in points (31).
The Most Valuable Player award went to senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel, who was SU's first student-athlete to sign with the Orange in its inaugural season. She played in every game since the team's inception and posted a 2.40 goals-against average and .917 save percentage this season. Her 26.28 saves per game ranked first in the CHA and her .514 winning percentage finished 20th in the Division I ranks. Schoedel was also named to the All-CHA Second Team and earned SU's CHA Three-Star Award.
Following the distribution of the team awards, the Orange honored its three seniors, including Schoedel and defensemen Gabrielle Beaudry and Brittaney Maschmeyer, all of which were selection to the All-CHA Second Team. After transferring from St. Lawrence at the start of the season, Maschmeyer made an immediate impact on the blueline, accounting for 16 assists and two goals. Beaudry is a founding member of the Orange and ended her senior campaign with 11 points (2g, 9a).
