Orange Finishes Third at BIG EAST Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Syracuse University women's rowing team finished third at the BIG EAST Championship with 84 points on Lake Quinsigamond. Notre Dame won its seventh-consecutive championship with 121 points. The varsity eight and second varsity four posted SU's best finishes, both placing third.
“I am very happy with the way most of our boats performed today. It gives a good starting block as we head to Washington and the Eastern Sprints,” head coach Kris Sanford said. “Obviously we would have liked to win or place higher, but each individual boat rowed to its potential today.”
Syracuse placed third in the varsity eight, crossing the line in 7:28.766. Notre Dame won in 7:17.587 and Louisville (7:23.621) finished second.
The Orange second varsity four also finished third in 8:56.985. Notre Dame also won that race in 8:24.238. Georgetown (8:49.265) placed second.
The SU varsity four and second varsity eight both finished fourth. Syracuse finished the varsity four race in 8:40.020. Notre Dame (8:08.885), Georgetown (8:27.224) and West Virginia (8:33.214) finished ahead of the Orange. SU crossed the line in 7:32.219 in the second varsity eight race. Notre Dame (7:21.397), Georgetown (7:30.332) and Louisville (7:31.798) finished in front of Syracuse.
The Orange placed sixth in the novice eight, crossing the line in 8:24.194. The Irish won in 7:32.732. Connecticut (7:39.961), Georgetown (7:53.835), West Virginia (8:02.346) and Louisville (8:03.654) rounded out the field.
SU must now prepare for the Windermere Cup in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday, May 1.
