
Orange Looks to Extend Unbeaten Streak

Looking to keep its unbeaten streak alive, Syracuse heads to Rhode Island to take on Providence on Thursday. The Orange enters the game with an overall record of 4-3-3, 1-0 in BIG EAST play. Providence currently has an overall mark of 6-1-1, 0-0-1 in BIG EAST action. The Friars are also currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak.
The Series
The two schools will meet for the 15th time on Thursday. In program history, Syracuse has only faced Connecticut more times than its has faced Providence. The Orange leads the all-time series, 9-4-1. In its last match, Syracuse came away with a 2-1 victory in double overtime. Tina Romagnuolo's goal in the 100th minute sealed the victory for the Orange.
Callisto Garners BIG EAST Honors
For her performance this past week, Rosina Callisto was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Against St. John's and Yale, Callisto scored one goal, her first of her career, and had an assist.
It marks the first time that a SU player earned such honors since the 1999 situation when Jenna Szyluk won co-Offensive Player of the Week. Callisto is the third player in program history to be honored with this award. Syracuse all-time leading scorer Erin O'Grady earned such recognition in the 1997 season.
With five points on the season, Callisto ranks fourth on the team in scoring. Her three assists are tied for the team lead.
Orange Gets First BIG EAST Win
In its first BIG EAST conference game of the year, Syracuse came away with a 1-0 victory against St. John's. It marked the first time since 2005 that the team opened conference play with a victory.
Rosina Callisto's goal in the 16th minute provided enough offense for the Orange to pull out the win. Brittany Anghel anchored the defense, making a career-high nine saves. For the second consecutive game, Anghel did not allow a goal to the opposition. Her three shutouts on the season ranks 10th on the Syracuse single season record list.
