SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University student-athletes from three different teams spent Wednesday morning participating in Children's Reading Week, emphasizing education to students from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. elementary school.
Rose Aschebrock of women's rowing, Kealy McMullen of softball, and Jenna Rickan and Amanda Hamilton of women's soccer were in Shine Student Center engaging the students with poems, Halloween books and childhood favorites.
“We think it is really important to come out here to support the kids who come to our games and support us,” Rickan said. “We want them to know that it isn't just about athletics and that we are student-athletes first.”
The 'Cuse Cares program is a community outreach program for student-athletes at Syracuse University. SU student-athletes have been recognized with SU's Chancellor's Award for Public Service and Community Engagement in each of the past 13 years for their volunteer efforts in the community.
