Riding a seven-game winning streak, the fifth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team (10-2, 3-0) continues its home stand against Columbia on Sunday at 1 p.m. from J.S. Coyne Stadium.
The Orange is coming off a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against No. 16 Albany on Wednesday. Trailing 2-1 midway through the second half, SU responded with goals from Heather Susek and Kelsey Millman in the final 25 minutes to secure the win.
Syracuse Playing the Best
The Orange has never been shy of playing the nation's best. This year is no different as Syracuse has already played the second-ranked team in the country twice in then top-ranked North Carolina and now top-ranked Old Dominion.
SU is 10-2 on the season, with both of the losses coming to the Tar Heels and Lady Monarchs. Both of those contests were decided by one goal.
Orange At Home
The Orange has been dominating at J.S. Coyne Stadium since fifth-year head coach Ange Bradley took the reins in 2007. Syracuse is 37-5 (.881) overall, including 25-3 (.893) in nonconference games and 12-2 (.857) in BIG EAST games.
The Orange has won its last 23 games at J.S. Coyne Stadium and has only lost twice since the start of the 2008 season.
Millman & Key Earn BIG EAST Accolades
Following a seven point performance in two Syracuse wins last weekend, junior attack Kelsey Millman was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Junior back Amy Kee, who led a defensive that allowed only two shots against, earned conference Honor Roll status.
Last weekend, SU field hockey recorded two wins versus Providence and UMass. Millman, who has started in all eleven games this season, scored in the second half against Providence and recorded five assists on the weekend. Kee was part of a defense that held Providence and UMass to zero and two shots, respectively.
Kee also scored her third and fourth goal of the season last weekend. She scored in the first half against Providence while also tacking on an assist to Iona Holloway goal. Kee's second half goal against UMass secured a 2-0 win.
Series Notes vs. Columbia
This will be the 3rd meeting between the Orange and the Lions, with SU holding a 2-0 advantage. The last meeting was in 2009, where the Orange won at home, 6-0.
Heather Susek recorded two goals in the match, and Kelsey Millman added one of her own. Both Martina Loncarica and Iona Holloway tallied assists, and keeper Leann Stiver recorded her first shutout of the season. It was the sixth win for the Orange during a twelve game winning streak.
Scouting Columbia
Columbia (4-5, 2-1) will travel to Syracuse on Sunday coming off a 2-1 victory over Rutgers last week. The Lions have a 2-4 record on the road this season.
Junior forward Gabby Kozlowski leads the team with 14 points, seven goals, and 44 shots. Six other players have scored two goals.
Defending the net the Lions is junior Christie O'Hara. This season, O'Hara has posted a goals against average of 2.59 and a save percentage of .750.
Columbia is averaging 2.22 goals per game, and has been outscored by their opponents 24-20.
