SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After its third straight first place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals last weekend, Syracuse cross country head coach Chris Fox was named the Northeast Region Coach of the Year. Fox, who has won the award in each of the past three seasons, led the Orange to a fourth place finish in both the men's and women's BIG EAST Championships.
Following last weekend's regional in Buffalo, N.Y., the men's team jumped 17 spots to No. 12 in the nation in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, the highest the men's squad has been ranked this season. The women's cross country team is also ranked No. 12 in the country.
Fox is in his seventh year at the helm of the Orange, and has led SU to two men's BIG EAST Championships and three NCAA Northeast Regional crowns. The women's team had a program best 10th place finish at the NCAA Championships last season, while the men matched a 14th place finish from 2009. During Fox's tenure at Syracuse, the Orange has risen to national prominence and produced two All-Americans in Tito Medrano and Pat Dupont. He is also a two-time BIG EAST Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Orange will close the season on Monday, Nov. 21 at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Racing commences at 12:08 p.m. from the Gibson Championship Course.
