
Women’s Rowing Battles Two Ranked Foes

DERBY, Conn. – The Syracuse University women's rowing team finished third in all five races against defending national champion Yale and instate rival Cornell on the Housatonic River in Derby, Conn. The Orange varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight and two varsity fours were in action.
The 18th-ranked Cornell Big Red won the varsity eight in 6:14.5. Syracuse crossed the line in 6:39.5. The Cornell C boat also won the second varsity four in 7:11.6. The Orange finished in 7:51.3.
Yale took home the second and third varsity eights and the varsity four. The Bulldogs' second varsity eight finished the course in 6:30.0. SU finished in 6:44.5. The Yale third varsity eight posted a time of 6:49.2. Syracuse crossed the line with a time of 7:08.6. The Bulldogs' varsity four won the race in 7:08.9. The Orange finished in 7:08.6.
The Regatta also served as a 'homecoming' for first-year Syracuse head coach Justin Moore. He was an assistant heavyweight crew coach for the Bulldogs in the mid 1990s. He guided the Yale freshmen to the 1996 Eastern Sprints title. A six-time NCAA Champion and U.S. Junior National Team coach, Moore came to Syracuse in August after a very successful 11-year tenure at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
The Orange returns to the water on Saturday, April 9 in Boston, Mass. at the Orange Challenge Cup against Northeastern and Pennsylvania.
